GAMBICA is the Trade Association for Instrumentation, Control, Automation and Laboratory Technology in the UK. It has a membership of over 300 companies including the major multinationals in the sector and a significant number of smaller and medium sized companies.

The scope of the Association covers the five principal sectors of the industry:

  • Industrial automation products and systems
  • Process measurement and control equipment and systems
  • Environmental analysis and monitoring equipment
  • Laboratory technology
  • Test and measurement equipment for electrical and electronics industries

Within these industry sectors, specific product or technical issues are addressed through Association Groups, but where the issue is of significance to several sectors, the matter is considered more widely within the Association structure. The aim is to ensure that members are informed on issues that will affect their business and that the industry is able to influence market growth and development.

Evolving technical standards
In particular, GAMBICA members play a key role in the preparation of national, European and international standards which affect product acceptance in world markets and provide the basis for management systems for quality, health and safety and the environment.

Operating in Europe
Many issues are addressed on a European level which require close links with similar associations within the European Union. GAMBICA achieves this through Orgalime, the West European Federation of major trade associations and through membership of product-specific European Sector Committees covering industrial automation products, power electronics and laboratory technology.

Orgalime provides GAMBICA with a key mechanism to keep member companies aware of developments in Europe and to influence those issues which affect the industry, in particular technical harmonisation, environmental policy, public procurement and trade policy.

Providing industry services
Member companies also benefit from a range of services through the Association; market data and economic forecasts, technical help on standards and EU Directives, and access to specialist services providing professional advice on taxation, employment and legal issues.
