BRIEF OUTLINE OF THE TAP GRANT PROCESS

BACKGROUND
Through the Department for International Trade (DIT) the Government offers extensive support to UK businesses wishing to export.  Particular emphasis is directed towards SME exporters, with financial aid available in the form of Tradeshow Access Programme (TAP) grants.  The grant scheme is available across virtually all sectors, and is administered via accredited Trade Challenge Partners (TCP’s); usually trade assocations relevant to that sector. 

GAMBICA is an accredited TCP for the Lab Tech industry and as such we, together with others in the Life Sciences Sector, are invited to identify and nominate our key sector overseas events for inclusion in TAP.  This process takes place once a year, for events in the following financial year (for example we will, later this year, submit our ‘bids’ for events between 1 April 2020 and 31 March 2021.

Feedback from GAMBICA members and regular exporting contacts is vital to this decision- making process and a survey is circulated in May of each year.  If you do not currently receive this survey and would like a say – please do contact Kirsty Roberts, for inclusion in our mailing list.

GAMBICA are, subsequently, advised of the events which have been included in TAP, together with the number and level of grants available for each event.

GRANT LEVELS & ELIGIBILITY
Via GAMBICA grants are currently offered at between £1,500 and £2,500 (depending on market).   The number available for each event is limited and is allocated on a first come – first served basis with priority given to group participants and companies within our industry.

Full information on eligibility and the full Terms and Conditions are available by clicking on the below links.  But briefly, a company must be a UK registered company and meet the following basic criteria:

  • Be a UK registered SME
  • Have received less than 6 TAP grants since 1 April 2009
  • Wish to grow exports beyond the EU or in up to six markets

CLAIM PROCESS
The Grant Application form must be submitted to GAMBICA not later than five weeks prior to show opening. On receipt of a correctly completed Grant Application form, we will check and process, and then confirm acceptance of your application and eligibility for the grant.  We will liaise on incomplete or inaccurate completion if needed.

If the grant claimant is part of the GAMBICA co-ordinated group they need take no further action until shortly after the event itself.  If, however, they are exhibiting independently of the group they will need to ensure that the required Proof of Payment supporting documents are submitted in good time.

Shortly after the event, and subject to a company having met the DIT Terms and Conditions, GAMBICA will submit the group claim, and then make payment (usually by BACS).

RECORDING EXPORT WINS - NEW
GAMBICA are now required to collect and submit details of any export business achieved by a TAP participant as a result of their participation at an event.  This will be via an online questionnaire and will be completely confidential.
