B2B Compliance supported by IABM and PLASA

B2B Compliance, the WEEE Compliance Scheme established by the Trade Association GAMBICA, has received the backing of two further trade associations affected by the WEEE legislation.

The International Association of Broadcasting Manufacturers (IABM) and the Professional Lighting and Sound Association (PLASA) have both recommended B2B Compliance to their members as being the WEEE Compliance Scheme, which will deliver best value for their respective sectors.

Ron Bonner, the Technical Resources Manager of PLASA, stated, “We have been impressed by the strategy adopted by B2B Compliance and are strongly recommending to our members that they support this initiative”. This view was reflected by Roger Crumpton Chief Executive Officer of the IABM, “We are supporting B2B Compliance as the solutions provider for the UK and are actively encouraging our members to join”.

Geoff Young, Chief Executive of GAMBICA, and a Director of B2B Compliance, responded by saying, “B2B Compliance has clearly become the definitive WEEE Compliance Scheme for the business sector and with approximately 100 members we are already the largest scheme in the UK – we are delighted that both PLASA and IABM have stated their support and expect other associations will provide a similar lead to their members by endorsing B2B Compliance”.

B2B Compliance was established following extensive consultation by a GAMBICA members’ taskforce, together with DEFRA and DTI, and will be registering as a Compliance Scheme primarily focused on Producers of business products. The scheme will take over many of the obligations of its individual company members in complying with WEEE legislation.

Geoff Young added, “Whilst the general focus of the debate has been on household-derived WEEE, there are enormous challenges to be faced by the B-to-B sector. We are convinced that a collective approach will achieve best value and we have the skills and expertise, as well as the operational infrastructure, in place for the sector to meet the requirements of the WEEE regulations.”

B2B Compliance has held seminars for over 360 companies and places can be booked through www.b2bcompliance.org.uk
