Level 6 Process Control Systems standard – information resource

As described in the article on the apprenticeship levy and trailblazer apprenticeships, from May 2017 all companies in the UK with a gross payroll of over £3m pa will have to pay a levy to the government. This is designed to produce a pool of money which can be used to pay for apprentices.

GAMBICA is supporting the Partnership in Automation and Control Training (PACT) to develop a Level 7 Process Automation and a Level 6 Process Control Systems apprenticeship standard. The development of the Level 6 apprenticeship standard and the associated end point assessment are being managed by Scott Turner of Emerson Automation Solutions. If you have any questions or suggestions regarding the standard please email Scott at [email protected] or call him on +44 (0)776 4142795.

The level 6 apprenticeship standard will take students who have graduated from college and provide them with the opportunity to complete a relevant engineering degree whilst gaining valuable work experience. The end point assessment will assess their ability to function as Process Control Systems engineers at the end of the apprenticeship period. The expectation is that the apprenticeship will take around five or six years to complete and will provide the apprentice with the knowledge and skills required to design, configure, install, commission and maintain through lifecycle process control systems.

This page contains a status report of the progress made by the working group and will be updated to publish the standard and end point assessment for review and comment by the working group.

If you would like to join the working group and have your say on what apprenticeships look like in your industry please use the request to join link at the top of this page. We are particularly interested in SME companies who can provide input.
