The Level 6 Process Automation Apprenticeship Working Group – information resource
As described in the article on the apprenticeship levy and trailblazer apprenticeships, from May 2017 all companies in the UK with a gross payroll of over £3m pa will have to pay a levy to the government. This is designed to produce a pool of money which can be used to pay for apprentices.
GAMBICA is supporting the Partnership in Automation and Control Training (PACT) to develop a Level 7 and a Level 6 apprenticeship standard in Process Automation. The development of the Level 6 apprenticeship standard and the associated end point assessment are being managed by Scott Turner of Emerson Automation Solutions. The level 6 apprenticeship standard will take students who have graduated from college and provide them with the opportunity to complete a relevant engineering degree whilst gaining valuable work experience. The end point assessment will assess their ability to function as Process Automation engineers at the end of the apprenticeship period. The expectation is that the apprenticeship will take around five or six years to complete and will provide the apprentice with the knowledge and skills required to design, configure, install, commission and maintain through lifecycle process automation systems.
