In September of 2023, GAMBICA held the very first in-person event for our University and Industry Collaboration group (GUIC). After months of planning plus finding the right venue and speakers, we were lucky enough to have Cranfield University serve us seamlessly as hosts.
Overall we had 35 attendees in person, a mixture between both industry and academic representation. The event was structured with four sessions, each outlining a different working group activity, with a related keynote and finishing off with a case study from two GAMBICA members.
From the feedback we received, it was a great success - with the topic discussions and guest speakers helping to add value and provide insight into what has been achieved by the council but also what we could achieve going forward.
We were also able to pass the baton of chair from Carl Diver of Manchester Metropolitan University to Mehmet Karamanoglu from Middlesex University. We would like to thank Carl for all his hard work over the past 3 years in helping kickstart a fantastic council and producing some brilliant work to showcase. We look forward to having Mehmet as the new chair, with some great ambitions for the group demonstrated already.
What’s next? We are always looking to welcome new members to the group, those who are interested in the collaboration between academia and industry focusing on areas of collaborative research, careers and policy. We will also be aiming to host another event in 2024, during the summer months. It will take on a similar format but following feedback we will potentially add workshops and roundtable discussions to the mix. Keep your eyes peeled on our website and in your emails for information about the upcoming event, we look forward to seeing you there!
