The GAMBICA Young Council is actively advancing its initiatives through its Sustainability, Upskilling, and STEM working groups. The group recently met at Make UK’s Technology Hub, where they witnessed impressive efforts in support of manufacturing apprenticeships.
The GYC sustainability working group are in the process of developing resources to demystify sustainability terminology for GAMBICA members. This initiative is designed to benefit all members, with a particular focus on our young professional community. The goal is to help them understand how they can make positive changes within their businesses, ultimately fostering business growth opportunities and a positive environmental impact.
Meanwhile, the upskilling working group is helping ensure that GAMBICA’s workforce is well-equipped to lead us into the future through their work on simplifying the landscape of professional training - watch this space for more on this soon!
All GAMBICA members know that inspiring the next generation of scientists and engineers is essential for ensuring the sustained growth of our industry, and the GYC is taking on the task through their STEM engagement activities. Several council members volunteered at this year’s Big Bang Fair to gain insights into its operations and assess the potential for further GAMBICA involvement.
The Fair welcomed over 20,000 students, offering them hands-on activities, experiments, workshops, and the opportunity to meet inspirational figures in STEM— an important role fulfilled by our GYC representatives. One GYC volunteer, Dulan Liyanage, said: “It was an honour to be able to reach and speak to so many enthusiastic young minds as well as network with some new friendly faces.”
The GYC is currently conducting a review of the Big Bang Fair and developing plans for engagement within the broader context of GAMBICA’s initiatives. Stay tuned for updates! For more information or to connect with the GYC, please reach out to Scott Pepper or Nikesh Mistry.
